N- Narrow... Minds

Print
‘I’m really fond of that woman’

‘Yeah... me too... Isn’t she always full of life?’

‘Her smile is contagious! I’m glad we have such people in our office’

‘Me too’

Just when the discussion between two senior persons in the organization was over, a staff member informed them about the issues that had been going in her personal life. She had been married for roughly 6 years with a child and is now getting divorced! Her family too has abandoned her! When the two ladies heard about it, this is how their conservation went:

‘How can she smile all the time?’

‘Isn’t she upset? I can’t see a single line of worry on her forehead! How is this possible?’

‘What is she going to do now? A single mother with no family! Looks like her life has totally ended’

‘I think she should go back to her husband! That is what a true woman does! Never leave the house of the husband’

‘I know! These modern women are totally spoiling things around us!’

‘I wonder, till when we will have such people in our organization!’

‘I’m still not over the fact, of how on earth is she not upset? As if it is no big deal to her!! Here, if I have a small tiff with my husband, I can cry a river over and she... she can’t even manage to look a teeny tiny bit unhappy?!’

‘Times sure have changed around us’

'No wonder!'

This is not a piece of fiction. It is the actual incidence. I wish people could see beyond a smile and not judge people for the way they want to be. They would know how many evil thoughts everyone is fighting inside them but readily wear a smile for the world, to see!

Welcome to my Blog! This A to Z Challenge, my theme is Let’s see the other Side’. Through this theme, I'm trying to giving voice lot of things that go around us and yet I can't do much to bring about the change. I feel, sharing my thoughts in my space here will somewhere make someone think and bring about the change we all want to see!
where I’ll be sharing about the daily nuances that we’ve been seeing in the same way since 1990’s! (:P) But this time you’re going to ponder over it a bit differently.

Feel free to express your thoughts and I'd be all ears!

I hope you have a great time here!

  1. oh, you have capturing perfectly the truth about the superficial, narrow mindedness of so many people. And sadly, it is the women who pull down other women! and imagine if they ever said this to that woman's face, how devastated she will be! I don't understand this pettiness, and narrow - mindedness some/most people seem to have!
Hugs to whoever this lady is! I wish her strength and success! And friends who are supportive!!!

    1. Yeah.... even if the lives of people are perfect, they tend to focus on the ones who're having a hard time!

  4. This, much like your post about the girl in a dress whose mum had passed away, is something I've seen happening around me. People just don't let other people be.

  5. What a pity, they would have rather appreciated her several fold more for still putting up such a smiling face always. Another great post Love! I have loved them all.

  6. Marriage and relationships are so much more turbulent in India - there are a lot more layers attached to them than there is in Australia. We tend to ignore other people's marital strife and assume it's fairly normal. I'm not sure which culture has it right - maybe we need a little of each?

  7. Well these things are rampant in our society. In most cases if such a woman is seen happy people automatically assume that she is having an affair or is characterless to be enjoying life without her husband and family. It is indeed a sick state of scenario.

    1. It truly is. And their logics are so baseless!! Why can't a woman enjoy without her husband?

  8. People rarely see the sadness behind a smile. Judging someone is such an easy thing to do. And how quickly we can change our minds. Very well depicted.

  9. This is so true! So many people expect others in a certain way- and if they dont they think that something is wrong with the other person. What people don't realize is that different people have different ways of dealing with emotions.

  11. We had a wonderful lady like this in our apartment, and people who loved her before, spoke exactly like this when she tried to gather herself after her husband's death. I wrote about it on my blog sometime ago. Shame on the narrow minds.

  12. I agree..people just judge you for anything and everything. They do not look beyond that and this is sad. I hope people start judging others and mind their own business.

  13. We have such people all around us and have to deal with them day in and out. These are the people who look at the world from their perspective, from their experiences and ideas and think that's the best way, which is truly sad!

  14. Sadly, I too have seen this happen... flipping the coin the moment the marital status changes from married to divorced.. sad mentality

  15. Been there, faced it all. Unfortunately, these prejudices (for women) continue all life whereas, men in similar circumstances are looked at in kinder light and with sympathy.

  16. Some people instead of being amazed by her strength and determination to part ways, they are reprimanding her. So much a woman in out society has to go through.

  17. It takes so much courage to wear a smile on your face when you know your world is collapsing on the other side. Some people will never get it. It is horrible. Glad you wrote about such narrow mindsets!

  18. Typical Indian mentality! And yes, it is mostly women who put other women down! Being single at almost forty, I've been the target too, of a lot of such comments. Can't understand why they can't mind their own business.

Btw, I'm lagging behind even more. But will catch up. Do visit my N post.
